Laid out over 62 hectares around a central lake, Zoo Negara, 13km northeast of KL, is home to a wide variety of native wildlife, including tigers and animals from other parts of Asia and Africa. One of the most popular new exhibits is the giant pandas. Although some of the enclosures could definitely be bigger, this is one of Asia’s better zoos.
It’s possible to spend a day as a volunteer here – the website has details for arranging this.
Taxis charge around RM25 to RM35 from central KL or you can take Metrobus 16 from the Central Market.
