Vendors from Kalimantan cross the mountains on motorbikes to sell fruit, electronics, handicrafts, rattan furniture and clothes at this sprawling weekend market, which occupies most of the otherwise quiet little border town of Serikin. The lack of a border or customs post here means that there is a free flow of cheap Indonesian produce; Kuchingites often make the drive down in search of a bargain. Serikin is 20km southeast of Bau; a taxi from Kuching is around RM80.
