To the north of town lies the first Malay school to provide English education for the Malay elite destined for the civil service. Nicknamed 'the Eton of the East', it was established in 1905 and during the 1950s Anthony Burgess, who later authored A Clockwork Orange , wrote his first book while teaching here. Not open to the public.
