Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad, fourth prime minister of Malaysia and longtime keystone of national politics, was born the youngest of nine children in Alor Setar in 1925. His childhood home, Rumah Kelahiran Mahathir is now preserved as a small museum, containing family effects, photos and the politician’s old bicycle.
