The graceful colonial district by the river turns up several buildings of note. Walk around the area and look out for the customs house, the courthouse, the high school (built in 1914) and Masjid Jamek, a Victorian fantasy in much the same style as Johor Bahru’s Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque.
