Perched dramatically on a hill surrounded by rainforest, Ibrahim Hussein Art Museum is dedicated to the promotion and development of art and culture. Datuk Ibrahim Hussein was one of Malaysia’s best-known artists of the 20th century and this museum is his creation. It showcases his works and the works of international artists. He lived here until his death in 2009.
Ibrahim Hussein worked with “printage” a combination of printing and collage. At the museum you can view his most celebrated and controversial work “May 13”, a painting that is not allowed to be sold or to leave Malaysia.
In the grounds there is a beautiful nature walk that wends itself into the surrounding rainforest.
The light-filled white building hidden in the forest can be tricky to find. it is best to catch a taxi or a bus that heads along Jalan Datai and ask to stop at the museum.
