Just off the northwestern tip of Busuanga is Calauit Island, home to the Calauit Game Preserve & Wildlife National Park. Megafauna commonly seen on safari in Kenya, such as giraffe, zebra, impala etc, can be viewed in their, um, adopted habitat thanks to Ferdinand Marcos’ efforts in 1976 to help save African wildlife, alongside several species endemic to Palawan (an alternative explanation offered is that Marcos’ son Bong Bong wanted animals to shoot).
