Manila Zoological and Botanical Garden

Spanning approximately 14 acres, the Manila Zoological and Botanical Garden (often referred to simply as the Manila Zoo) is home to more than 800 animals, including numerous different species of mammals, reptiles, birds and more. Special points of interest include the Wildlife Rescue Center, which serves as temporary shelter for sick, injured or abandoned animals (a sort of double duty zoo and Humane Society), two impressive aviaries, and areas containing crocodiles and an Asian elephant, Mali. There is a goose area, a tiger cage, an African veldt section, and a domed enclosure (part of the aviary complex) that houses storks, herons and peafowl. Visitors will also enjoy the botanical garden and arboretum, where you can learn about the flora indigenous to the region. There are also boat rentals available at the lagoon. Equal parts educational and entertaining, the Manila Zoo is a beloved attraction for visitors to the city.

Visitors with children will enjoy the many playgrounds and rest areas around the park. There are also many eateries and souvenir shops to add to the experience. The Manila Zoo is a very popular attraction, and can get quite crowded on the weekends, so plan your visit accordingly and prepare to stand in at least a couple of lines. Admission to the zoo, which is located on M. Adriatico Street, is the nominal sum of 10 PHP. It is open 7am to 6pm daily.
