The citys central gathering place is worth a stroll, particularly on weekends, when its a popular picnic spot. Bring some food for the resident tilapia.

Mangrove park with bamboo walkway. Offers two-hour tours on bamboo paddle boats (P150 per person), with the unique addition of a foot massage as you go.

La Union Botanical Garden
The sprawling La Union Botanical Garden , 6.5km east of the city, has pavilions and a variety of plant life. Take a Cadaclan-bound jeepney from the town square.

Bagongbong Falls
From barangay Upper Looc, 500m north of Almeria, a road takes you up to Caucab, where a sealed track gets you most of the way to pretty Bagongbong Falls.

Ayuntamiento
Once the grandest building in all of Intramuros, now the new Treasury Department building has been built over the ruins of the Ayuntamiento, destroyed in WWII.

Tukon Chapel
Tukon Chapel is an appealing stone church built by the Abad family for their daughters wedding in 2008; its a 1¼-hour uphill hike southeast of Basco.

Radar Tukon
From Basco it’s a 1½-hour walk or a tough 30-minute bike ride up to Radar Tukon, an abandoned US weather station on a hilltop with great 360-degree views.

The Manila Zoo is an appealing oasis in the middle of the city with a diverse collection of animals, although the place is a bit rough around the edges these days.

Next to the Provincial Governors Office, Museo ng Quezon houses numerous items of memorabilia from Manuel L Quezon, the dapper first president of the Philippines.

Ninoy Aquino Statue
This is a famous Ninoy Aquino statue that shows him right before he was shot. It’s built on the spot where many pro-democracy rallies took place in the 1980s and 1990s.

Pongasan Cave
The Pongasan Cave , a half-hour climb straight up from Bangao, where you’ll find five coffins with mummies. However, the mummies here are not very well preserved.

People’s Park
A family-friendly expanse of more concrete than green space with larger-than-life-sized sculptures of native peoples of Mindanao, all designed by artist Kublai Millan.

Excavation Museum
The tiny, unattended one-room museum displays some burial jars and ancient Chinese pottery mostly recovered from the area in the 1960s. It’s in the grounds of the church.
