Commanding Fort Canning Park is this offshoot of French private art museum Pinacothèque de Paris. Precious historic Southeast Asian sculpture, jewellery and other artefacts grace the small, free Heritage Gallery, with blockbuster temporary exhibitions (covering a range of themes) held in the Features Gallery. Best of the lot is the Collections Gallery, hung with over 40 rarely seen works from immortals like Rembrandt, Monet, Picasso and Modigliani.
These Western masters are refreshingly displayed among Southeast Asian tribal artworks to accentuate the indelible, oft-overlooked link between the two, described by gallery curator Marc Restellini as the 'transversality' of art. Among the museum's other features are a specially commissioned Graffiti Walk – created by six street artists from around the world – and a Garden Walk, a mosaic installation by French artist Julie Navarro (at its most beautiful in the morning light). Between these 'Walks' is the museum's dedicated art academy, offering art classes and lectures to visitors (see the website for details).
