Pulau Hantu
Located just of the southern coast of Singapore’s main island sits Pulau Hantu, or Little Ghost Island. According to local legend, the two small islets that make up Pulau Hantu were formed when two Malay warriors both collapsed into the sea and died after a fierce battle. The two were transformed into the two islands, and some believe their spirits still wander there today.
Whether or not you believe in ghosts, you’ll find Pulau Hantu a relaxing escape from Singapore City. The sheltered beaches and clear lagoons that line the island make it a popular day trip destination for swimming, snorkeling and diving. The coral reefs that sit below the surface just off the island’s shore are home to a surprisingly wide array of marine wildlife, including angel fish, clownfish, giant clams and seahorse. If you wish to stay overnight on the island, you’ll have to apply for a camping permit before you arrive.
