Advance reservations are required for the hour-long guided tours of this gem of a museum. The collection includes furniture, such as chests, bookcases, chairs and dining tables, made from varieties of wood like persimmon, maple and paulownia, some decorated with lacquer, mother of pearl or tortoise shell. Take a taxi here from the subway exit.
The museum is the personal project of a former Yonsei University professor who has amassed some 2500 pieces, of which around 500 are on show at any one time. Equally impressive are the compound's collection of 10 wooden buildings, such as the kitchen house with its seemingly contemporary design of windows, as well as a villa that was once part of Changdeokgung . The panoramic views from the gardens and inside the buildings are also lovely.
