Banpo Bridge
Banpo Bridge passes over the Han River in downtown Seoul, connecting the Yongsan and Seocho neighborhoods. The girder bridge, completed in 1982, didn’t become an attraction in Seoul until 2009 when the Moonlight Rainbow Fountain was installed.
Holding the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest bridge fountain in the world, Banpo Bridge utilizes 380 water jets on either side that pump water directly from the Han River off the side of the bridge in a dancing display meant to resemble willow branches in the wind. After the sun goes down, hundreds of colorful lights illuminate the water, and daily 15-minute fountain shows add music to the spectacle.
This free attraction only operates from April to October, and show times change from month to month. When the weather is nice, the park at the base of the bridge makes a pleasant spot for an evening picnic dinner while you wait for the fountains to come to life.
