Yeouido Park
The city of Seoul is divided into two parts by the Han River, and one of the city’s best green areas sits on an island in the middle of this river. Yeouido Park, opened in 1999, is a favorite among locals for walking, jogging, biking and playing sports in the outdoors. One- and two-person bicycle rentals and rollerblade rentals are available within the park for a small hourly fee.
The park is divided into four themed sections. You’ll find only native Korean trees and plants in the Traditional Korean Forest and an open grassy expanse perfect for picnicking in Grass Square. The city of Seoul stages cultural performances throughout the year in Culture Square. The most interesting of the four is Nature’s Ecosystem Forest, an area of the park containing a pond, grassy area, forest and several pavilions where you can sit back and take it all in.
During spring when Seoul’s cherry blossoms begin to bloom, take a walk down Yunjunro Street next to the park to see 3.7 miles (6 kilometers) of cherry trees lining the road. It’s one of the best cherry blossom viewing points in all of Seoul.
