Seopori Beach
Along Deokjeokdos southern shore, the spectacular 2km-long Seopori Beach, backed by a thick grove of 200-year-old pine trees, is the main island attraction for travellers. Nearby Batjireum Beach , 4km north, is another option.

Cheonggyecheon Cardboard House
One of the slum houses that used to line the river back in the 1950s, this wooden shack displays paraphernalia of 1960s and 70s Seoul, as well as a reproduction of a classroom and teahouse. Its opposite from Cheonggeycheon Museum.

Yeongnyeongjeon
The smaller shrine within Jongmyo, Yeongnyeongjeon, was built in 1421 and has 34 spirit tablets of lesser kings in six rooms. These include four ancestors of King Taejo (the founder of the Joseon dynasty) who were made kings posthumously.

Seoul Museum of Art
Hosting world-class exhibitions that are always worth a visit, SEMA has ultra-modern, bright galleries inside the handsome brick-and-stone facade of the 1928 Supreme Court building. For some special exhibitions an entrance fee is charged.

Ewha Womans University Museum
To the left of the university entrance, the exhibits spread over three floors here conjure up the extinct world of the yangban (aristocratic) elite with wonderful examples of their refined taste in ceramics, art, furniture and clothing.

Amisan
This terraced garden is located within Gyeongbukgong, Seouls premier palace. The brick chimneys decorated with longevity symbols on the garden’s top terrace are to release the smoke from the palaces ondol (underfloor heating) system.

Martyrs Mountain
The final resting place of the Korean Catholics who were executed in 1781 and 1801. There are 13 crosses on the hillside marking the burial spot and a small church, accessible by a trail. Locals also know it as Jeonjus best sunset spot.

Daehan Empire History Museum
The Daehan Empire History Museum, with its opulent lobby, dining rooms and bedrooms, is in the neoclassical-style Seokjojeon. Visiting is only possible by booking a tour online or upon arrival, which takes place approximately every half hour.

Turtle Ship Replicas
Towards the north end of the Gangguan promenade, there are four turtle ships. Definitely worth a look. While ducking your head inside the ship, try to imagine how 50 sailors and 70 oarsmen might have functioned in these cramped quarters.

Samchung
This temple is dedicated to three loyal Baekje court officials, including General Gyebaek. Despite being outnumbered 10 to one, the general led his army of 5000 in a last stand against the final Shilla and Chinese onslaught in AD 660.

Anyang Pavilion
By the river you can drop in to see what’s showing at Anyang Pavilion, a sleek minimalist building designed by Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza. Here you can pick up a map to the art park, as well as join a guided tour from March to November.

Folk Museum
The Folk Museum at Lotte World uses imaginative techniques like dioramas, scale models and moving waxworks to bring scenes from Korean history to life. The price is included in the day-pass ticket for Lotte World Adventure and Magic Island.

Agriculture Museum
Much more interesting than it sounds, this museum has imaginative displays that relate to the history and practice of farming on the Korean peninsula through the dynasties. Upstairs covers general aspects of traditional life in rural Korea.

Jeongbang Pokpo
A favorite with photographers, this 23m-high waterfall is a 15-minute walk east of the town centre. At times less dramatic than the islands other wateralls, its claim to fame is that its the only waterfall in Asia that falls into the ocean.

Jeju Museum of Art
View interesting permanent and temporary exhibits of contemporary visual art at this excellent gallery next to Jeju Loveland. The beautifully designed building appears to float on a pool of water. Its on the Jeju Golden Bus City Tour route.

Korea Tea Museum
Here you can learn more than you ever thought you needed to know about tea, both in Korea and around the world, and also take part in a traditional tea service (₩2000). The museum is a 1km walk up the hill from the parking lot behind the bus station.

Gyeonghoeru
One of the most impressive structures within Seouls main palace Gyeongbokgung, this large pavilion rests on 48 pillars and overlooks an artificial lake with two small islands. State banquets were held inside and royals went boating on the pond.

Ji
Just outside Suwons city walls, Ji-dongs expansive labyrinth of grungy alleyways burst with vibrant murals that decorate its walls. To get here, head through Jidgan Market arcade and take the first left at Changnyongmon-ro, from where its a 500m walk.

Jeongjeon
The stately main building of World Heritage–listed Confucian shrine Jongmyo, Jeongjeon was constructed in 1395, and is fronted by a large stone-flagged courtyard. Inside are 49 royal spirit tablets in 19 small windowless rooms which are usually locked.

Nammang
Set aside an hour or more to enjoy the views atop this mountain beside Gangguan harbour. On the way up, youll pass a modest sculpture park with 15 pieces of art. Up top theres a statue of Yi Sun-shin and a pavilion providing panoramic harbour views.
