Tajikistan’s Persian past is invoked in the facade of the Writers’ Union Building. It’s adorned like a medieval cathedral with saintly, sculpted-stone figures of Sadruddin Ayni, Omar Khayam, Firdausi and other writers from the Persian pantheon.
