Formerly the current royal family’s official residence (at time of writing the king was in hospital), Chitlada Palace is also a royally funded agriculture centre demonstrating the reigning king’s commitment to the progress of the country’s major industry. The palace is not open to the general public and it’s pretty difficult to see much from the outside, but you can spot rice paddies and animal pastures – smack in the middle of Bangkok – through the perimeter fence.
