Tastefully revamped, the main palace of Bao Dai, Vietnam's last emperor, beckons visitors with its beautiful tree-lined avenue and a surprisingly modest royal residence. Its peach-coloured rooms were once home to him, his wife and their five children before being taken over by Prime Minister Ngo Dinh Diem once Bao Dai went into exile in France in 1954.
Highlights are undoubtedly the family photos: Bao Dai playing with a dog, riding a horse, and well-scrubbed royal children with serious faces.
