Museum of Trade Ceramics
Visitors to this museum who expect to see only stunning examples of Chinese and Japanese-influenced pottery will be surprised to find that the halls of this restored traditional home in the center of Hoi An provide much more. The museum showcases the rich history of the town, highlighting its active trade relationships with Thailand, India and the Philippines. Between the 16th and 18th centuries, exports of ceramics to these nations were what allowed Hoi An to flourish. While the history is detailed, the ceramics are sometimes poorly displayed and often only shards and fragments. Still, the historic home, which houses the extensive collection, provides an interesting history lesson for those who appreciate architecture, too.
Practical Info:
The museum is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Be sure to check out the room detailing the home’s restoration process through photographic comparisons of earlier days and contemporary time.
