Tam An Pagoda
Quy Nhon’s second most active pagoda, Tam An is a charming little place that attracts mostly female worshippers, although it’s open to all.

Museum
A small museum showcases war memorabilia, including an old French amphibious vehicle. It’s on Hwy 6, after the turn-off to Cu Chinh Lan.

Ankroët Falls
Ankroët Falls and Lakes are 18km northwest of Dalat and were created as part of a hydroelectric project. The waterfall is about 15m high.

Dao Titop
This small island (complete with a scruffy beach) is a popular boat stop for superb panoramic views across Halong Bay from its summit.

Cam Pho Temple
The newish Cam Pho Temple has a sparkling ceramic dragon roofline. At the time of research the interiors were undergoing restoration.

Thong Nhat Park Main Gate
This park, formerly known as Lenin Park, is a lovely place to escape the bustle of the Old Quarter and see what the locals do in their downtime.

Dao Ga Choi
One of Halong Bays most photographed sites, these two jagged rocks jutting 10m of the water look like two fighting cockerels having a face-off.

Cable
The Cable Car Station in Dalat has a cable car that runs along a 2.3km wire over majestic pine forests to the hill where Truc Lam Pagoda stands.

French War Memorial
The formal French War Memorial, erected on the 30th anniversary of the 1954 battle, commemorates the 3000 French troops buried under the rice paddies.

Research Library
At the back of the History Museum building on the 3rd floor is a research library with numerous books about Indochina from the French-colonial period.

Thom Beach
The road from Dai Beach to Thom Beach via Ganh Dau is very beautiful, passing through dense forest with tantalising glimpses of the coast below.

Thu Thien
Thu Thien is not far off Hwy 19, 35km northwest from Quy Nhon, and can easily be combined with a visit to Duong Long and the Quang Trung Museum.

Kien Giang Museum
Housed in an ornate gem of a French colonial-era building, the collection here includes lots of war photos and some Oc-Eo artefacts and pottery.

Market
This Mui Ne market is traditional non-touristy affair.

Tre Lon
Some of the more pristine beaches are on the smaller islands, such as the beautiful white-sand beach on Tre Lon, to the west of Con Son Island.

Van Lan
Near the entrance to Tam Coc, Van Lan is famous for its embroidery. Local artisans make napkins, tablecloths, pillowcases and T-shirts. Bargain hard.

Hang Thien Cung
Part of the same cave system as Hang Dau Go, nearby Hang Thien Cung has ‘cauliflower’ limestone growths as well as stalactites and stalagmites.

Lookout Tower
For an overview of Son La, follow the stone steps to the left of the Trade Union Hotel. Look forward to a 20-minute walk to reach the lookout.

Stone monument
Outside the Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Museum, in true socialist art style, is a large stone monument to those who perished at the hands of the French in 1930-1.

Tang Tau Lake
An island on Tang Tau Lake, which is northeast of Tinh Tam Lake, was once the site of a royal library. It is now occupied by the small Ngoc Huong Pagoda.
