If you want to meet the locals and get a feel for island life, try to plan a trip to Bermuda during one of its spectator sporting events. Race organizer Fat Tire Massive holds a variety of mountain bike and paddleboard races throughout the year.
Yes, mountain biking might seem like an oxymoron in an island location like Bermuda, but the scenic trails and temperate climate make it the perfect destination for outdoor sports. Sanctioned through the Bermuda Bicycle Association (BBA), there are bike races for men, women, and kids.
Makin’ Waves presents the 32Sixtyfour Paddle Race Series, and events take place at Somerset Long Bay, Clearwater Beach, and Fort Saint Catherine Beach. There are events for surfboards, stand-up paddleboards (SUP), and multi-hulled boards. SUP races are presented in a lap format for optimum spectator viewing. Categories include novice, cruising, and elite. Bicycle events typically take place during the spring and fall, and paddleboard races during the summer.
