St John’s, on the main road in the village of Fig Tree, is a stone church that dates from 1680. A glass case in the back displays a copy of the church register, dated March 11, 1787, which records the marriage of Horatio Nelson and Fanny Nisbet. If you peek beneath the red carpet in the center aisle you’ll find a continuous row of tombstones of island notables who died in the 1700s.
