This pseudo-medieval gate was erected in 1932 (when these nostalgic portals were all the rage in Hungary) to mark the 400th anniversary of Suleiman’s withdrawal; memorials under the gate commemorate Hungary’s fallen in WWI and WWII. Attached is the General’s House , a small museum with a missable collection of folk art and local history but with a good view of the Old Town from the top of Heroes’ Gate.
