The hamlet of Khatyn, 60km north of Minsk, was burned to the ground by the Nazis on 22 March 1943. Of a population of 149 (including 85 children), only one man, Yuzif Kaminsky, survived. The site is now a sobering memorial, with tours offered in Russian. There's also an exhibit of photographs (admission BR10,000).
There's no public transport to Khatyn from Minsk, but a taxi will cost around €35 for the return journey.
