Lier’s most iconic monument is the photogenic Zimmertoren, a partly 14th-century tower incorporating a fanciful 1930 timepiece that’s eccentrically over-endowed with dials, zodiac signs, and a globe on which the Congo remains forever Belgian. Figures on the south face perform bell-striking duties every hour.
Horology specialists can check out the mechanisms, slow-moving video explanations, and a pavilion displaying a second 1935 astronomical Wonder Clock. With 93 dials, the latter is undoubtedly super clever but not so thrilling for nonspecialists.
