The name of this cute little humped back bridge translates as something close to 'spite' or 'bloody-minded', leading to wildly varying local legends.
One version has it that the bridge's builder had fallen out with his funder and deliberately constructed it with uneven arches as a mild revenge. A fairy-tale legend that guides prefer involves would-be lovers who lived so near and yet so far across the stream from one another: but the (richer) woman's father was unprepared to build a bridge until her suitor had moved away. Or been killed, according to the nastiest version.
