Dobrun Monastery is a large, very photogenic riverside complex backed by high tree-dappled grey crags. It's a resonant site for Serbs as Karađorđe (Đorđe Petrović, 1765–1817) hid here immediately before launching the 1804 uprising which led to the abolition of Serbian serfdom. Originally founded in 1343, the monastery church was blown to pieces during WWII when it had been used by German forces as a weapons store, though a key fragment of original mural survives.
