The former village of Volosko on the northern edge of Opatija is one of the prettiest places on this coastline and still maintains a local ambience. It’s very scenic indeed – men repair fishing nets in the tiny harbour, while stone houses with flower-laden balconies rise up from the coast via a warren of narrow alleyways. From central Opatija it's best reached by a 2km, 30-minute stroll along Lungomare, past laurels, palms, fig trees, oaks and magnificent villas.
