The fortress, once connected to the city walls, was built around the 15th century. At the furthest end, you’ll see an elegant gazebo built by the French Marshal Marmont during the Napoleonic occupation of Dalmatia, where he used to sit and play cards amid the waves. At that time, the western end of the island was a lagoon; the malarial marshes were not drained until the 20th century. The fortress hosts concerts during the Trogir Summer festival.
