Jarun Lake
Affectionately nicknamed the ‘Zagreb Sea’ by landlocked city dwellers, the pebbled beaches of Jarun Lake offer a scenic alternative to Croatia’s coastal resorts for those visiting the capital. A local hotspot during the summer and a popular recreational area year-round, the 2km long manmade lake lies just southwest of the city and is easily reached by bus or tram from the center.
With over 2,500 meters of beaches, including an official nudist beach, 6 islands connected by bridge and boat to the mainland, and clean, shallow waters, Jarun Lake is an ideal swimming spot, as well as hosting a range of watersports. Sailing, windsurfing, rowing, kayaking and fishing are among the most popular activities, with the lake boasting a regatta course used regularly for international rowing competitions and over 20 varieties of fish. The forested lakeside also features a network of walking and cycling paths, a range of sports centers including tennis and basketball courts, and a cluster of waterfront bars and clubs that bring a lively nightlife to the area.
