Makenzy
Probably the best beach in town with all the facilities needed for a day in the sun. It’s about 2km south of Larnaka past Piyale Pasha.

Pernera
Tiny Pernera beach is a curvy sliver of good, soft sand with shallow waters and a beach restaurant. It’s highly popular with families.

Reservoir
At the southern end of the site you come to the Roman-era reservoir, which stored the water brought to Salamis by a 50km aqueduct.

Bafra Beach
This signposted public beach is 10km beyond Boğaz (Bogazi); turn right towards Bafra Bay. The beach is sandy with clear water and basic facilities.

Basilica of Agios Epifanios
Once the largest basilica in Cyprus, this church was built during the episcopacy of Epifanios (AD 386–403) and completely destroyed during Arab raids in the 7th century.

St George of the Greeks Church
The ruins of this once stately Byzantine church are highly picturesque. You can still make out the faint outlines of once rich frescos upon the interior stone walls.

Aphrodite Beach Hotel Beach
This lovely, calm beach is clearly signposted on the way to the Baths of Aphrodite. It’s good for children, with its clear, swimmable waters and comfortably small pebbles.

Silver Beach
North of Famagusta before Salamis, this shallow sandy beach is perfect for swimming and snorkelling, whereby you can explore the submerged harbour of the ancient city.

Louma
A small, curving strip of beach which drops away gently, protected by an artificial bay. The sand is fine and the water is clear. Trees at the northern end provide shade.

Nicolaidis Winery
Part of the CTO’s ‘Wine Routes’, this third generation boutique winery produces some interesting tipples. Stock up on their rosé (which they’re known for) while there.

Municipal Art Gallery
The gallery features old and contemporary works of art from local artists. It also has regular monthly exchanges of international exhibitions with various European galleries.

Cyprus Classic Motorcycle Museum
The owner of this private museum is more than happy to chat extensively about his 150-plus bike collection. It may just bring out your inner Hell’s Angel (bring a bandanna, just in case).

Kumyalı Beach
This little beach–fishing harbour, just outside the village of Kumyalı, is ideal for a last stop and swim as you drive up the western flank of the peninsula to the more exquisite beaches.

Palazzo del Provveditore
The ruined arches and supporting columns (taken from Salamis) of the Palazzo del Provveditore sit opposite Lala Mustafa Paşa Mosque. The triple-arched entranceway is the best preserved part.

Asmalı Beach
Asmalı Beach is slap in front of the border village of Yeşilirmak (Limnitis). It’s a clean pebbled beach, with a few restaurants surrounding it, catering to those who travel this far.
