This delightful noble confection is the goal of one of the most popular day trips from České Budějovice. The castle dates from the 13th century, but it changed hands several times until it landed in Schwarzenberg brood in the 17th century. The 'English Tudor' face it wears today was modelled on Britain's Windsor Castle and dates from the 19th century.
Three English-language tours are available: Tour 1 (called the ‘representation room’ on the website) focuses on the castle's public areas; tour 2 goes behind the scenes in the castle apartments; and tour 3 explores the kitchens. Tour 1 is all most visitors will need to get the flavour of the place.
