Regal spa building dating from the mid-19th century. The spas Antonín Dvořák Concert Hall frequently hosts concerts of the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra.

Plečník Monolith
A noteworthy feature near St Vitus Cathedral is a huge granite monolith dedicated to the victims of WWI, designed by Slovene architect Jože Plečník in 1928.

Showcasing Moravias obsession with tradition, the Ethnographic Museum gives a comprehensive insight into the regions traditional culture from the 18th to 20th centuries.

Jewish Cemetery
The 17th-century burial ground on Hrádek, about 600m north of the Jewish Quarter, is the largest in the country, with more than 11,000 graves. The oldest dates back to 1641.

Assumption Church
South of the main square on Františkánská is the Assumption Church; when entering you pass an unusual crucifix with a clean-shaven Christ nailed to the cross by only one hand and one foot.

Church of St Vitus
This pretty church, with its signature neo-Gothic tower, is worth a peek inside. The church occasionally hosts classical music concerts. Ask at the nearby Infocentrum at náměstí Svornosti.

Ceremonial Hall
Built in 1912, the Ceremonial Hall was formerly the mortuary for the Old Jewish Cemetery, and is the site of an interesting exhibition on Jewish traditions relating to illness and death.

Fryderyk Chopin Memorial Museum
This small museum displays personal effects and information on the life of Polish-French composer Fryderyk Chopin, who visited the spa in 1836. Chopin’s music is played in the background.

Galerie Rudolfinum
Housed in the Rudolfinum complex of concert halls, this gallery specialises in changing exhibitions of contemporary art. The entrance is on the riverfront (northern) side of the Rudolfinum building.

Museum of Romani Culture
This excellent museum provides an overdue positive showcase of Romany culture. Highlights include a couple of music-packed videos, period photographs from across Europe, and regular special exhibitions.

Jewish Town Hall
The town hall was built by Jewish ghetto mayor Mordechai Maisel in 1586. Its worth noting for its clock tower, which has one Hebrew face where the hands run backwards, as Hebrew script does.

Bezručovy Sady
A staircase at the rear of St Michaels Church on the southern end of Univerzitní leads through the walls of the old town to Bezručovy sady, a pretty park wrapped around the meandering Mlýnský potok.

St George Slaying the Dragon
Standing in Prague Castles third courtyard is a copy of a 14th-century bronze figure of St George slaying the dragon; the original is on display in the nearby Story of Prague Castle exhibition.

Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary
This imposing twin-towered white-and-yellow structure is the most important Roman Catholic Church in Mariánské Lázně. It dates from the mid-19th century and is an example of neo-Byzantine style.

Bishops Court
The Bishops Court Museum houses the largest freshwater aquarium in the country, and has plenty of information on Moravian wildlife, lots of model mushrooms and a sleepy section on the history of money.
