The star of Faaborg's main square, is sculptor Kai Nielsen’s striking bronze fountain Ymerbrønd , which caused a minor uproar on its unveiling. It depicts a Norse creation myth: the naked frost giant Ymir (from whose body the sky and earth were made) suckling at the udder of a cow.
Nearby, the recently refurbished Klokketårnet was once part of a medieval church. It’s climbable in summer. From late June to mid-August, you can join the nightwatchman as he begins his rounds from here every evening at 9pm.
The medieval town gateway Vesterport was built in the 15th century to allow entry into Faaborg and is one of only two such gates remaining in Denmark.
