Hans Christian Andersen Museum
Hans Christian Andersen is one of Denmark's most famous poets and fairy tale authors. He was born in 1805 in Odense, and at age 14, he left for Copenhagen to join the Royal Theater. He was attached to the theater for three years without salary, but later he received help to complete his schooling. By 1829, he had graduated and started to work on his poetry full time.
Today a museum dedicated to his life stands in his birth town. The museum opened in 1908 and is one of the oldest poet museums. The exhibitions take visitors back to the time when Andersen's works were created. You will learn about the poet himself, his appearance and his mind, as well as his creative range as shown through his drawings, writings, and other artwork. Interactive computer exhibits allow visitors to look through his books on screen and listen to his tales.
