National Greenland Museum

Since the 1960s travelers eager to travel back in time and learn about the history, culture and traditions of this frozen country have been venturing to the National Greenland Museum in the capital city of Nuuk. The well-curated galleries of this popular attraction are lined with ancient artifacts from archeological digs and the first Arctic Stone Age cultures. Visitors will find traditional handicrafts and local art work that showcase much of the nation’s 4,500 year history. 
Visitors who wander the halls will gain a deeper understanding of Greenland’s indigenous people, architectural landmark and unique geological highlights. One of the top exhibits is a collection of female mummies—including a baby—that were unearthed at Qilakitsoq.

Practical Info

The museum is located at Hans Egedesvej 8 in a warehouse that was built in 1936. It is open June 15 through September 15 Monday through Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and September 16 through June 14 Tuesday through Sunday from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Between June and September admission is $5 per person.
