Nuuk Cathedral
This tiny wooden Lutheran church in the heart of Greenland’s capital was built between 1848 and 1849. Known by locals as Church of Our Savior, the brick red colored exterior and towering spire are staples in the landscape of this picturesque destination.
Located next to the Colony Harbour, Nuuk Cathedral is the perfect place for visitors to wander on a trip through the quiet city center. A statue of Hans Egede is located on a hill above the church and is a replica of one that once stood in front of the Marble Church in Copenhagen, where until 1993, Copenhagen and Greenland shared a cathedral.
Practical Info
Nuuk Cathedral is located in the Old Nuuk neighborhood of the capital city of Greenland. On National Day, citizens gather around the church to celebrate.
