North York Moors National Park

There are few places in England as untamed as the North Yorkshire Moors and it’s an enchanting backdrop for hikers, with acres of wind-tousled moorlands, ridges blanketed with purple heather and fields of wild daffodils. Although only granted national park status in 1952, the sweeping vistas of the North York Moors were inspiring art and literary long before, and fans of Sylvia Plath, Ted Hughes, Bram Stoker and the Bronte sisters, will find their works coming to life as they explore the vast moors and rugged coastal cliffs. 
With 1,400 miles of hiking, cycling and horseback riding trails waiting to be discovered, there’s no excuse for not getting outdoors in the North York Moors National Park, but there are also many historic attractions, beaches and family activities to enjoy. Highlights include the popular seaside resorts of Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay and Scarborough; the legendary North Yorkshire Moors steam railway; the magnificent ruins of Rievaulx Abbey; the lively market town of Helmsley; and adventure parks like the Go Ape forest canopy or the Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo.

The North York Moors National Park is located in North East England, approximately 40km north of York. There are no admission fees to enter the park.
