Strawberry Fields

Strawberry Fields is a popular stop on Liverpool’s Beatles trail for music fans young and old.

A massive hit for the Beatles in 1967, the song ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’ was written by John Lennon about the Salvation Army children’s home near his childhood home in the Liverpool suburb of Woolton.

In the song, Lennon wrote about the woods surrounding the building where he played as a child and attended annual garden parties, which was actually called Strawberry Field.

Today, the focus for Beatles fans making a pilgrimage to Strawberry Field is the much-photographed and graffitied filigree iron and stone gateway leading to the entrance of the property.

Strawberry Field is south of central Liverpool in the suburb of Woolton. The best way to visit is by car or on a Beatles Liverpool tour.
