Olde Hansa
Olde Hansa is situated in a prime position on Tallinn’s old market square. It is one of the most popular restaurants for first-time visitors to Estonia -- and even a number of locals. Olde Hansa’s popularity lies in its quirky (though surprisingly not too kitschy) medieval theme: servers are dressed in peasant garb, the music is straight from the Middle Ages and is provided by chamber musicians roving through the warren of rooms and out onto the terrace and the indoor dining area is lit by candlelight.
This restaurant is a great place to splurge and indulge in large plates of game, Juniper cheese, forest mushroom soup and exotic meats such as elk, wild boar and all washed down with honey beer and spiced wine.
The restaurant has evidently worked hard to create an atmosphere that is as authentically medieval as possible while avoiding falling too far down the tourist trap path. Old Hansa is a fun, lively place to dine and is popular with large parties. Prices are significantly higher than average, but it is certainly worth making the visit.
