In the heart of the Le Panier quarter is the Centre de la Vieille Charité, built as a charity shelter for the town’s poor by local architect and sculptor Pierre Puget (1620–94). The beautiful complex, with stunning arched sienna-stone courtyard, houses rotating exhibitions and two small museums: the Musée d'Archéologie Méditerranéenne and the Musée d'Arts Africains, Océaniens et Améridiens , as well as a relaxing cafe .
