Nestled in a bucolic valley, this strikingly beautiful abbey dating from the 12th century is well worth a detour for its spectacular Cistercian architecture and Baroque interior. Entirely restored in the 18th century, it's one of northern France's most complete monastic complexes, including caretaker's house, church, cloister, sacristy, chapterhouse and refectory. The interior of the church has a magnificent organ loft, sculptures, stalls and wrought-iron choir screen. Note that the abbey is only accessible on a guided tour; ask about the availability of English tours by phoning ahead.
After the tour, you're free to stroll among quiet landscaped gardens and soak in the ethereal calm surrounding the abbey. In summer various events are held here. If you want to overnight in Valloires, the abbey has an hostelry and a restaurant (open for lunch).
The abbey is a circuitous 25km northeast of Le Crotoy.
