The thousand-year-old Château de Menthon-St-Bernard – one of the inspirations for Walt Disney’s Sleeping Beauty castle (so they say) – was birthplace of St Bernard in 1008. Tours of the medieval interior – courtesy of the 23rd generation of De Menthons to live here – take in tapestry-adorned salons and a magnificent library, but it’s the sparkling Lac d'Annecy panorama that leaves many visitors speechless. Situated 8.5km southeast of Annecy.
