During the 19th century, the village of Eaux-Bonnes (literally, Good Waters) flourished as a spa resort thanks to its geothermal hot springs, which fed public baths frequented by many illustrious figures including the Empress Eugénie. It’s lost some of its lustre these days, but if you’re aching after too much hiking, you can still enjoy a spa treatment and a sauna at the Thermes des Eaux Bonnes .
