St-Benoît-sur-Loire’s Romanesque Abbaye de Fleury is still home to a practising Benedictine brotherhood, who conduct afternoon tours from March through October. Look out for the basilica’s famous decorated portal and capitals and the relics of St Benedict (480–547) which the monks fetched from Montecassino, Italy in 672.
