In 1827 Louis Pasteur's family settled in the bucolic village of Arbois (population 3653), 35km southeast of Dole. His laboratory and workshops here can be seen at the Maison de Louis Pasteur. The house is still decorated with its original 19th-century fixtures and fittings.
