A vast new wing and a new name are among the sweeping changes to this state museum that opened in 1908 as the Westfälisches Landesmuseum. In its 51 rooms, you'll find many of the sculptures purged from the churches by the Anabaptists. The collection spans from the Middle Ages to the latest avant-garde creations. Works are displayed by theme as opposed to merely chronologically. Contemporary painters Conrad von Soest, August Macke, Simon Hantaï and others also get their due.
