Wild cats, beavers, kingfishers, bats and owls are just some of the critters you might spot in Eifel National Park, North Rhine–Westphalia’s only national park. It protects about 110 sq km of beech forest, rivers and lakes, and is filled with interesting plants and wildlife. In spring, a sea of wild narcissus floods the valleys.
The park's developed centre, Forum Vogelsang, is a good starting point for hikes. Staff at the visitor centre hand out advice and maps. Information and informative exhibits can also be found at all the park entrances, including Simmerath-Rurberg, Schleiden-Gemünd, Heimbach and Nideggen.
