Luther returned to Eisleben in January 1546 to help settle a legal dispute for the Count of Mansfeld, but he was already ill and died on 18 February, a day after finalising an agreement. This museum, expanded and updated in 2013, focuses on three themes: how the culture of death has evolved over the centuries; Luther's thoughts about death; and the last 24 hours of his life. The museum's prize literary exhibit is a bible from 1541 – the last Luther worked on.
