The most scenic spot along the Saar River is the Saarschleife, where the river makes a spectacular, almost unbelievable hairpin turn, flowing 10km to return to a point just 2km from where it started. In a large nature park about 5km northwest of Mettlach (towards Nennig), the best viewing point is Cloef, a 1.7km walk east through the forest from the village of Orscholz.
The Saarschleife is 60km northwest of Saarbrücken along the A620 and A8.
